Vacancy Announcement: Board of Directors, Medicine Wheel Ride

The Medicine Wheel Ride (MWR) is seeking passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors. MWR is a volunteer-led organization committed to raising awareness about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) and supporting Indigenous communities. As a board member, you will play a key role in fostering collaboration across communities and advocacy networks, driving both advocacy efforts and mutual aid initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

    •    Develop and implement advocacy initiatives in collaboration with community members and organizations.
   •    Support and oversee both fundraising efforts and the management of MWR’s mutual aid work.
   •    Write grants, engage donors, and lead outreach campaigns to secure financial resources.
   •    Promote MMIP awareness and build partnerships with organizations and supporters.
   •    Provide strategic guidance aligned with community needs and organizational goals.
   •    Participate in monthly virtual meetings and one annual in-person meeting (location to be determined).
   •    Leverage personal and professional networks to foster collective action and advance MWR’s mission.

Preferred Qualifications

   •    Motorcycle riding experience.
   •    Prior board experience, especially in nonprofit governance, strategy, or planning.
   •    Advocacy experience within Indigenous communities or related to MMIP.
   •    Strong collaborative leadership and community engagement skills.
   •    Knowledge of Indigenous traditions, sovereignty, or treaty rights (a plus).

   •    Respect the voices and lived experiences of all who engage with the board and organization.
   •    Actively contribute to one or more committees.
   •    Understand and align with MWR’s mission, programs, and collective purpose.
   •    Participate in community events and outreach efforts.
   •    Strengthen partnerships to enhance the impact of MWR’s work.
